• Government Incentives and Mini-Budget during the COVID-19 pandemic – 18.03.2020

    • €1.6 billion funds: €700 million as tax payments to be paid in the future; €900 million as bank guarantees;
    • Postponement of tax payments for March and April 2020, for employers and self-employed to reach between €400 – €700 million;
    • €210 million, equivalent to 1.5% of the GDP, in order to safeguard the economy and jobs;
    • €350 to be given to employers, in respect for each employee on quarantine leave;
    • 2 months additional leave to be paid at a rate of €800 per month; to families whereby both parents work, and where teleworking is not feasible, purpose being to care for children;
    • Between 20,000-44,000 employees who work with companies hit directly by measures to protect public health, being industries of accommodation, restaurants, entertainment, and language schools who work 2 days weekly will benefit from a sum based on the rate of €800 monthly;
    • Self-employed working in the industries of accommodation, restaurants, entertainment, and language schools will be paid for 2 days weekly on a tariff based on €800 monthly, while self-employed who have employees will be paid for 3 days weekly;
    • Businesses which suffered from a 25% loss in their operations will be paid for one day weekly based on the tariff based on €800 monthly;
    • Self-employed who suffered from at least 25% or more loss in their operations, will be paid for one day weekly based on the tariff of €800 monthly – while self-employed who employ others with them will be paid for two days weekly;
    • Employees who lost their job since 9th March 2020 will benefit from €800 monthly as a temporary measure;
    • Persons with a disability who cannot work from home, but have to remain at home due to complications which may arise from COVID-19, will benefit from €800 monthly;
    • Employees paying rent, who lost and will lose their jobs, will qualify for a subsidy, even if before they did not qualify for it;
    • Businesses which terminate jobs may not give new jobs to TCNs;

    Malta will not accept TCN applications less those who are highly-skilled.
