• Legal Notice 61 of 2020 Epidemics and Infectious Diseases (Suspension of Legal and Judicial Times) Order, 2020 - 13.03.2020

  • Upon closure of all courts due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be a suspension of the running of legal and judicial times, and peremptory periods which apply to the procedures before the said courts. This suspension shall remain in force until the lapse of 7 days from  the repeal of the order of closure.

    Notwithstanding this order, the court is empowered to order the opening of the registry, the hearing of any case, and anything consequential to this, in cases of urgency or in cases where the public interest should prevail.

    The definition of a “court” includes any tribunal established by law, any board, commission, committee or other entity before which proceedings are heard and which are subject to time-limits.
